Dealer’s BMW purposely backs into our car in Portland, Oregon

This was a strange thing that I wanted to document somewhere. This happened on March 5th, 2017 in Portland, Oregon. A couple in a 2011 BMW with dealer plates (dealer: McDonough Motorz) purposefully backed into our 1996 Honda Civic that was parked in front of our house. The video is farther down on this page.

I’m sharing this for three reasons:

Here’s the video. The moment of impact is at 2:04.

Right before their car backs up, you can see the female act as a lookout and give a “Don’t go yet" signal while a car passes. (This is the main evidence that the backing up was intentional and not an accident. Additional evidence would be their taking pictures of our car and house but not leaving any information at the scene.)

Both the car in front of them and the car behind them belong to us. We purposefully parked right behind them for a couple reasons:

Also, both of our cars have a bumper sticker that reads “Trump Is Garbage,” and this was possibly another factor in making the couple angry.

One theory about these people’s motivations: this couple was loaned the dealer car for a day or two for whatever reason (would have to be a fairly long loan to do grocery shopping), and their plan was to tell the dealership that we had hit the BMW and give the dealer our info. That way, the couple wouldn’t have to actually file any claim themselves; they could just give the dealer our info and exit. (I also think it’s possible one of these people was the dealer’s employee or friend.)

Another theory: the driver was actually either the dealer or the dealer’s friend or employee. Perhaps the dealer had arranged to have the back bumper repaired in preparation for selling it. So this person had nothing to lose by trying to cause a little damage to our car. This doesn’t really explain why he’d take the photos of our car and house but he might have just done that to cover his bases in case he had to explain what happened to the car to someone else.

The name of the dealer is McDonough Motorz, based in Portland, Oregon, owned by a Jeremy McDonough. We left messages for him and texted him, as we thought he’d be interested in someone smashing his fairly nice car into our car, but he hasn’t returned our messages. The dealer is an individual; there is no business location. (If you are the dealer and want to contact me to have your information taken down, feel free to send me a message/comment on here and I’ll get back to you.)

Other details about this car, which we found via the Craigslist ad the dealer created for selling this car:
